Book Launch Party!

It’s time to launch the next installment in the #80sMetalMurder series.

And, there are SO many ways to join the celebration!

Devil’s Track, the fourth book in the Det. Mahoney Serial Killer Thriller series, will descend upon the world on April 27. This NEW book is a fresh start for this series. The first three books, Final Track, Acid Track, and Back Track, fit nicely together as a stand-a-lone trilogy. Set in the late 80s, the journey of Det. Mahoney spirals down a dark vortex as he hunts a series of serial killers. The soundtrack follows an 80s Metal, Acid Rock, Gothic Rock progression.

The NEW book, Devil’s Track, takes us on a jump to the late 90s. The detective is NEW, as we now take a deep mind dive into the consciousness of Stella Mahoney, our previous Detective’s daughter. Stella is a bourbon-heavy metal-sex addicted fireball with a deadly secret.

On a high from a Rob Zombie concert bender, Stella is thrust into the case of her dreams.

She follows the Satanic symbol branded into the flesh of the victim. It leads her to the Devil’s Track – an album of hypnotizing devilish chants produced by the Poison Sisters. The album takes a hold on her, leading her to murderous acts, threatening to reveal her deadly secret.

Will her murderous desires be revealed? Will she live up to her father’s legacy?

Will she catch a killer before another victim is burned alive?

Devil’s Track is currently on pre-order (e-book) for a killer price of $0.99. Print will be available on April 27.

Bon (Demon) Julie’s 80s Metal Murder Birthday

It all began with some sweet birthday sugar from my lovely friends. I didn’t expect gifts. Especially not 80s metal, chocolate, flowers, and wheels of cheese gifts!

I woke up early, got some writing in, then braved the snow storm to get my free pie in a cup from Starbucks. Peppermint mocha. Yes.

At several times during the day, I fondled the hard cover copies of the Horror anthology I was recently published in. They arrived just in time for birthday fondling. And yes, I love the word fondling.

Mid morning was spin time! Pre burn for my birthday dinner. I paired the sweat fest with a movie suggested by my horror loving friend who knows my fetish for metal. The Green Room did not disappoint. And I quote, it’s like “licking the floor in a public restroom.” Ha. While watching it, I actually felt like I was back at Vern’s on the night of my book launch.

Then it was sprint time! Writing a chunk of words with my awesome Nanowrimo Bootcamp. They rock. And I got in a great scene started in the hospital after my main character gets attacked by a glowing purple monster fish with fangs.

After a warm bubble bath I had an experience beyond all with a small slice of the triple creme brie that my dear friends gave me. Oh. My. God. Once you have triple creme, you never go back.

Of course, the experienced wheel of cheese eater as I am, a beer pairing is a must. My special birthday pumpkin beer brewed by amazing hubby went perfectly with the triple creme. To top it off, I took in one of my fav rock movies, wrapped in a blanket, by the fireplace. I mean, cheese, beer, Marky Mark as a rock star…say no more.

Now, you’d think this enough, right? Nope. The evening was topped off with a wonderful winter walk, with hubby, up to a new restaurant near us. More cheese. Wine. Pizza. Limoncello. Walk home. What a day. And, no, there are no pictures of dinner. I didn’t look at my phone. I took in the evening.

What is your favourite birthday memory?

Corpse in a Cave

The third body

Hiding in a dark, wet cave

Crouched in a corner

Staring with a single, glassy eye

Peering through a wild tiger’s mane, voluminous and orange

CaveCrimeScneA bright fire against the cloak of darkness

Legs pressing against tight pleather

Threatening to rip right through

Face thick with layers of cream

Like a papier mache doll

The third body, vacant, waiting, in the back of the dark, wet cave

For Detective Mahoney to discover the clues

Figure out their bizarre meanings

And piece them together

Creating a trail to a sick monster

80s Metal is Alive with NöIZE BöYZ

80s Metal is still alive. And, no, not just in my house. Although, the Bon Julie household does see a high daily dose of everything 80s and everything metal, despite the eye rolls and head shakes, it lives beyond the walls of one house.

Thus, when on the spur of the moment, 90s Britney and 80s Bon Julie, in the midst of sprawling evening, ventured to a local establishment for a few shots and a dose of live 80s music…the seedlings for local band NöIZE BöYZ to come back to life were planted.

Hold up. 90s Britney? Yes. The Brittney-Bon Julie duo is what you get when a bunch of quirky, dark writers decide to go to Olive Garden for cheap pasta and boiled meatballs. The night had been themed as dress like you did in the 90s. One demon sent another demon a picture of 90s Britney. The receiving demon showed up for dinner ready to declare that oops, she’d done it again. The evening was off to a grand start. The two little demons slithered away for a night of who knew what. Declaring that the evening needed some sort of spice, the little demon not in pigtails and a skirt pulled on cheap pleather and a Bon Jovi t-shirt. Thus, Bon Julie morphed into being and the dancing begun.

As declared by this not so subtle duo, the band was amazing, the dancing was spastic, and the night an overall success.

With an upcoming 80s metal party to celebrate the completion of a concept album wrapped in a serial killer novel, Bon Julie couldn’t fathom the party without the new found 80s rock gods. To her delight, they were interested. To her double delight, they had an alter ego featuring 80s metal.

Although they have been hopping around town wearing their primary identification, they had so much fun re-igniting their 80s metal alter ego, and have unleashed an uncontrollable appetite by their fans. Thus, without further ado, the NöIZE BöYZ will be back THIS SATURDAY for a live stream 80s metal show that will rumble your insides and see you banging your head in your living room uncontrollably.

Join Bon Julie and throw in a couple of high kicks…just be careful not to knock over any lamps.

Finding My Flow in the Depths of Soul Sucking Self Promotion

Here I was again. In a book store, standing beside the table that I had fussed over – making sure that everything was in just the right place. I stood up tall, facing the less than spectacular crowd, and tried to ignore the feeling of doubt washing through me. Thoughts speared my brain. This is stupid. No one wants my book. What am I doing here?

We’ve all been there. Maybe you have done a book signing, maybe you haven’t. I am sure, however, that you have all had similar thoughts and feelings in some situation.

A book signing is honestly one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done. It is soul sucking. There you are, like some kind of jack-ass, telling people as they walk by that they need to buy your book. Yes, I am a local, self-published author that decided to write a book because I had this deep, burning desire within me to tell at story, and you now, some random stranger who was just going about your day, you need my book. It will change your life.

Celebrate You

It is absolutely 100% a-okay to celebrate the S!$T out of something you did that you are very happy about.

And, as I am telling you this, I will admit that I just re-learned this lesson again a few days ago. I know – to truly celebrate you can be hard.

I worked for two years writing and producing my first novel. It is infused with things that I am passionate about. 80s heavy metal. Serial killers. Detectives and criminal profiling. And wilderness.

For an entire week leading up to the 80s Heavy Metal Party / Book Launch that I had planned, I was seeping self-doubt and dripping with a feeling that I was a self-indulgent m!#er f%&er. Yes. But – I have a tool box now for when I have these feelings. I rid myself of negative thoughts and replaced them with positive and exciting ones. And I worked on my energy – I tapped into that inner glow, that inner WHAM BAM that people see in me. I let it swell within in, a growing ball of powerful punch, until it was ready for the PARTAY! Thus, I put myself out there now to show you that it is totally OK for you to celebrate you!!!

When the launch day came, I eased into it. All my hard work and planning was done. Everything was in place. I let go. I allowed myself to truly enjoy and be in every moment. And guess what? I celebrated like an 80s rock star!!!

A Wild Ride as a Glam Demon – Finding Me

When you completely tap into your inner energy, your true being, things just flow. You know that feeling? No resistance. Just flow. Your energy is good. It vibrates in a warm, happy way that attracts other people.

The last couple of years have been a wild ride as I ventured down the path to writing my first novel, which turned out to be an 80s Heavy Metal Serial Killer Thriller. Yes. When I first starting writing it, characters and scenes materialized within me. And I doubted a lot of it. I thought it was just too weird. I wasn’t sure if I should write this book. It seems funny to recall those thoughts now. A lot has happened between then and now. I met a lot of really cool, interesting, supportive people. And guess what? They’ve made me realize that I am weird – and that’s just fine. The people that were already in my life also supported me every step of the way – both my writing and my weirdness.

So, on this particular day, in all my inner glam demon glory, my energy shone and I floated along my path of to-do items – all in the name of launching a Serial Killer Thriller infused with criminal profiling, ritualistic murder scenes, heavy metal, and everything 80s. Thus, it is fitting that the launch will be a spectacular 80s party. 80s clothes. 80s hair. 80s music. Glam. Rock. Metal. It will be a blast.

As I swirled along on the 80s vortex, my first stop took me to Melodiya Records. This place is COOL. You need to check it out! On the hunt for a couple of cassettes that I still have’t found…I found one of them.
