10 Days of Halloween – Wrap Up

What a day!! Did you have a full Halloween?

I started with a brisk walk in the cool fall air. There was pumpkin carving. There was candy. There was fall flavored beer. There will soon be a scary movie…

My afternoon treat. Perfect can for Halloween. Great fall flavors.

My hubby did an incredible carving. Mine was ok. But his was amazing.

I love carving pumpkins every year, lighting them, and leaving them on the porch. Even more fun is handing our candy to all the dressed up kids! They always comment on my costume. One boy this year told me, ‘oh that’s creepy!’

Happy Halloween! Hope you had fun.

10 Days of Halloween

Pumpkins, gourds, roots of the earth!

Are you carving a pumpkin this year?

I’m not sure what I’m going to do, but hubby and I always carve on Halloween day, then set then aglow on the porch at night.

I’ve got these beauties waiting.

The greenish one in the front is a special squash that my mom gave me, from her friend’s farm! It’s apparently delicious roasted. Can’t wait to find out.

What should I carve? Here’s some past creations.

What design are you carving?

10 Days of Halloween – Horror Inspired Cocktails

One of the best parts of Halloween is the candy, right? What better pairing for your bowl of sugary treats than a horror inspired, dark and delicious cocktail?

I have come across a few good ones lately, but this one takes the cake. I have added it to the official cocktail menu for the Virtual Halloween Party that will be in full motion tomorrow night to welcome a new book into the world! This cocktail idea was so kindly donated by The Haunted Walk.

Do check out their cool page. And do share your horror inspired cocktails here. There is always room for more on the menu…

10 Days of Halloween – Decorations

I finally did it! Every year I look longingly at the cool and creepy decorations in the yards of neighbours. This year I finally got an outdoor decoration. He looks pretty good, eh?

On my walks lately I’ve been noticing all the Halloween decor. People are really onto it this year! Check this monstrosity out.

Do you put up outdoor decorations?

10 Days of Halloween – Pumpkins After Dark

I had the best time at Pumpkins After Dark! What is this, you say?

There is ski hill on the outskirts of the city I grew up in, and still live in. At times during the year when the hill is not buried under snow, the hill is used for other activities. To my delight, this year it was transformed into a Halloween wonder land filled with carved pumpkins and lights! Some of the artistry, careful carving, and pure talent that was on display was breath taking.

Every display was made entirely of pumpkins! There were A LOT of pumpkins that went into this, and a lot of time, patience, and talent. It was a real treat to walk through this Halloween wonderland filled to the brim with pumpkin and lights delight!

Creations were inspired by horror greats (Freddie, Jason and Michael), characters from many realms (including the Muppets), and odes to scary scenes (I couldn’t believe the detail carved into the skeleton bikers).

I do think my favorite had to be the multiple part display of Jack the Pumpkin King!

The best part of the whole evening was sharing it with my dear mom. I do hope we have started a new yearly tradition!
