It’s Halloween month! That means it’s time to start packing in the Halloween fun. It’s a time for dressing up, putting on makeup, eating candy, watching scary movies, and reading spine chilling books!
Just for you, little demons, a bunch of FREE spine chilling reads.
I had quite a good spell of writing, writing, WRITING!
It’s paid off. The collection of horror stories I now have to offer to readers is growing fast. With three stories already part of some killer collections, and a full on collaboration soon to be released, it’s hard NOT to get excited.
Stop on by my updated horror books page for a peruse for full details on how to get your hands on each collection and a chance to join in on an upcoming celebration for a new launch.
Tonight is the Halloween Howler! What is the Halloween Howler, you ask? It’s a double header live 80s metal show! Adhering to the restrictions in place, a hotel in the downtown core of my city has found a way to support live music. Thus, my tiny entourage and I will be making our way down to the belly of the city, decked up in 80s metal gear, and watch two live bands prove that 80s metal is still alive!
Last week, when a multiple day snow storm hit, and winter descended upon us much too early, I thought, oh my, we will be huddling in our winter coats watching the show. You see, in order to meet the requirements, the show is at a hotel, the bands will be on the pool deck, and the fans will be watching from room balconies.
But then…the weather turned. The sun came out, the snow melted, and the day of the show is looking very promising indeed.
I am particularly excited about seeing Delicious Dan (yes, that’s my name for him). He was my favourite when I saw Broken Toyz at a small dive hot-boxed in sweat.
Here’s to Halloween! Here’s to 80s Metal! And here’s to making the best of life.
What activity are you looking forward to this Halloween? I would love to hear! Share in the comments.
One of the best things about Halloween…the sweet, sugary treats! I love indulging for a day.
Of course, there’s the traditional Halloween candy, the gooey caramels and mini chocolate bars. But that post is for another day…
Today we talk about baking! Oh yes. Two Halloween’s ago, I made this cake. I was shocked at how simple it really was. And it was really delicious.
Last Halloween, I didn’t do any baking. So, this Halloween I am keen! My plan is to make luscious chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing. Since I love the Pumpkin King (and just might be dressing up as him this year – stay tuned), I’m going to decorate them like this.
As with makeup (10 Days of Halloween – makeup), you only need a simple set of tools, and little spark of creativity. Don’t be afraid, if I can do it, so can you!
What amazing treats have you baked Halloweens of the past? What are you planning for this Halloween? Share your photos or describe you luscious treats in the comments.
Since this is the week leading up to Halloween, I’m devouring scary movies. I tend to stick to the ‘old school’ stuff. I love the 80s. This week I have ventured into the current year! Yes! And guess what? It’s not so bad.
Being an 80s metal head and a horror lover, I came across this absolute gem! If you love sassy characters, metal heads, and ritualistic murder…this is for you. Give it a go. The story is decent. I’ll admit, I was surprised a few times – the twists are well executed.
I LOVED the fact that it PROVED that metal isn’t dead. Really.
I LOVED the unexpected twists and turns.
I LOVED the unsettling ending…where you start to question what really happened.
Have you been watching scary movies? What’s your favourite? Any recommendations for Halloween night? I’d love to read your suggestions in the comments.
It’s almost Halloween!! Grab a handful of cheap, sugary candy from that pumpkin bucket and take a few minutes (well, 13 minutes and 42 seconds) to watch the full video (or shall I say mini-movie?). You can’t tell me you don’t want a creepy blast from the past…and a bit of sugar to put you in that Halloween spirit.
Now that you’re hopped up on sweet chocolate and caramel goo, why was (and still is…) Thriller so good?

Was it because of Michael’s sheer joy over seeing himself transform into a werewolf in front of the eyes of his sweet, pure girlfriend? I mean, c’mon, he’s clearly enjoying this! Or the incredible transformation, fur, nails, teeth and all? I mean, this was 1982.

Or was it the perfectly choreographed dance of the dead? These zombies had moves! And, of course, we were all in love with the way that Michael could slide across the dance floor…or the cemetery.
Or was it the fact that this video was 13 minutes and 42 seconds long? In a time when the video format was new, videos were short and full of glam, this one pushed the limits WAY beyond the boundaries. It was LONG. It was SCARY. It was completely different than any other video out there when it was released. Yet, it was a HIT! We all love it.
How about we sum it all up as a chilling, thrilling, mini-movie wrapped up in a video box? We all loved this tiny film. We all watched it over and over. And we also played that LP until it was scratched and jumpy.
I love scary movies. What better time than Halloween to pour a glass of wine, turn off all the lights, and curl up on the couch for scary movie time?
Today, in true Demon Julie style, I’ll recommend the toxic cocktail – Devil’s Candy. Two parts heavy metal, one part murder, and laced with terror. In raw #MetalMurder fashion, the devil’s music possesses those who listen, morphing mere humans into killing machines.
It’s a rough, raw ride filled with horrifying images. It’s sure to send a chill up your insides. So grab a cocktail, butter that popcorn, and prepare your self for a scary ride!
What is your favorite scary movie? Share in the comments.
