Positively Power – ACDC

Right at a time when we all need a little positivity, the kings of rock deliver. ACDC has just released their newest album – Power Up. It packs punch. It pumps that positive, body twitching, head jerking ACDC electric juice through your entire body. Click on the quick vid below for a little sneak preview (I indulged in the hardcore fan package of the CD version).

Every tune shoots energetic vibes through the air for miles and miles. I don’t know how these guys are still doing it, but they are. Power Up is the seventeenth album of ACDC, and the tunes do not disappoint. Malcolm and Agnus, the brothers that initiated the spark that would become ACDC, co-wrote the songs. Malcolm sadly passed in 2017 of dementia. What a tribute to him.

I still get thrills shooting through my veins when I think back to the time I dragged my better half on a half day journey just to go and see these guys. It was pouring, I mean POURING, rain, but it didn’t slow them down. Angus trotted, danced, whipped his head around and convulsed in guitar god bliss across that slippery, rain drenched stage as it if were a slight sprinkle.

Even Rolling Stone acknowledges that they’ve never slowed down, and this new album is one of their best. Check out the full article.

So here’s to all those about to rock, all those who love dirty deeds done dirt cheap, and every raving fan who remains thunderstruck decades later!

10 Days of Halloween – Wrap Up

It’s sad to say goodbye to my beloved Halloween for another year. But, as I look back on the last week, I realize I’ve had enough fun…for now.

Our pumpkin carving was a success. The new carving toolset is awesome! I can’t wait to stretch my limits next year.

Bake time was a blast, and it was delicious. Who doesn’t love feasting on the remnants in the mixing bowl?

I spent the whole day listening to Halloween songs, including my all time favorite.

And of course, I had some devlish fun on my makeup.

To top off this amazing week with an 80s metal cherry, Halloween Howler with Broken Toyz was a blast.

If you love Halloween as much as I do, stay here, and follow along on Facebook or Instagram, for plenty more spine prickling things….

10 Days of Halloween – Metal Murder Movie Time!

Since this is the week leading up to Halloween, I’m devouring scary movies. I tend to stick to the ‘old school’ stuff. I love the 80s. This week I have ventured into the current year! Yes! And guess what? It’s not so bad.

Being an 80s metal head and a horror lover, I came across this absolute gem! If you love sassy characters, metal heads, and ritualistic murder…this is for you. Give it a go. The story is decent. I’ll admit, I was surprised a few times – the twists are well executed.

I LOVED the fact that it PROVED that metal isn’t dead. Really.

I LOVED the unexpected twists and turns.

I LOVED the unsettling ending…where you start to question what really happened.

Have you been watching scary movies? What’s your favourite? Any recommendations for Halloween night? I’d love to read your suggestions in the comments.

Corpse in a Cave

The third body

Hiding in a dark, wet cave

Crouched in a corner

Staring with a single, glassy eye

Peering through a wild tiger’s mane, voluminous and orange

CaveCrimeScneA bright fire against the cloak of darkness

Legs pressing against tight pleather

Threatening to rip right through

Face thick with layers of cream

Like a papier mache doll

The third body, vacant, waiting, in the back of the dark, wet cave

For Detective Mahoney to discover the clues

Figure out their bizarre meanings

And piece them together

Creating a trail to a sick monster

Book - Hand-Detective

The First Corpse

The first corpse was found in the woods by a little girl with bouncing blonde curls and pink boots.

This first corpse yanked Detective Mahoney from his sunny side ups and hurled him into a dark vortex in one foul swoop.

The first corpse with long dark curls, painted porcelain skin, and deep intersecting lacerations marking the work of a sadist.

The first corpse is the one that will haunt Detective Mahoney until he finds the sick psycho that left the body on a bed of leaves. Continue reading “The First Corpse”

GnR Live – Rough and Raw

Every live music experience is special in it’s own way. I love live music. I love the entire experience. From beer soaked joints packed tight to massive stadiums filled with screaming crowds, every experience is unique. And the band does not have to be perfect. in fact, it’s better if they’re not.

I did see GnR when they re-united after many, many years. They all should have been dead a couple of decades earlier. I knew I wasn’t paying to see the GnR of 1987. I knew I was going to see the recently re-united and older GnR. It did turn out to be one of my favourite concerts. Why? Many reasons.

I got to wear what I wanted…

I mean, it’s not like I don’t wear what I want, well, most of the time, but, all of a sudden my pleather and tassels were acceptable. I fit right in. I was tickled pink that I could dawn my stretchy pleather pants and strut around in my buckled boots. Yeah bitch!

20170830_200118.jpg

It was an outdoor setting on a beautiful day, which we don’t get too much of here in freakin’ Canada. Basking in the sun, beer in hand, band on stage – you can’t ask for more. The drive up had been stressful on a packed highway with a bunch of other jackasses gunning it to the concert. The evening unfolded, starting with tacos and beers, and sliding into an early arrival to the outdoor venue. We had plenty of time to enjoy the amazing opening band and to chat it up with the friends who had joined us. I was relaxed.

Of course, GnR was – well – GnR. My long time beloved front man had been dwindling for a while. But I knew this. I was prepared. He held his own – well enough – for me to be delighted by the somewhat reminiscent screeches of the wild orange maned Axel of my youth. Even if it only came in small glimpses between rest breaks, during which I’m sure he was guzzling water and gulping down oxygen from a tank behind the stage. Still. I got to see Axel one last time.

80s Metal is Alive with NöIZE BöYZ

80s Metal is still alive. And, no, not just in my house. Although, the Bon Julie household does see a high daily dose of everything 80s and everything metal, despite the eye rolls and head shakes, it lives beyond the walls of one house.

Thus, when on the spur of the moment, 90s Britney and 80s Bon Julie, in the midst of sprawling evening, ventured to a local establishment for a few shots and a dose of live 80s music…the seedlings for local band NöIZE BöYZ to come back to life were planted.

Hold up. 90s Britney? Yes. The Brittney-Bon Julie duo is what you get when a bunch of quirky, dark writers decide to go to Olive Garden for cheap pasta and boiled meatballs. The night had been themed as dress like you did in the 90s. One demon sent another demon a picture of 90s Britney. The receiving demon showed up for dinner ready to declare that oops, she’d done it again. The evening was off to a grand start. The two little demons slithered away for a night of who knew what. Declaring that the evening needed some sort of spice, the little demon not in pigtails and a skirt pulled on cheap pleather and a Bon Jovi t-shirt. Thus, Bon Julie morphed into being and the dancing begun.

As declared by this not so subtle duo, the band was amazing, the dancing was spastic, and the night an overall success.

With an upcoming 80s metal party to celebrate the completion of a concept album wrapped in a serial killer novel, Bon Julie couldn’t fathom the party without the new found 80s rock gods. To her delight, they were interested. To her double delight, they had an alter ego featuring 80s metal.

20200117_080515.jpg

Although they have been hopping around town wearing their primary identification, they had so much fun re-igniting their 80s metal alter ego, and have unleashed an uncontrollable appetite by their fans. Thus, without further ado, the NöIZE BöYZ will be back THIS SATURDAY for a live stream 80s metal show that will rumble your insides and see you banging your head in your living room uncontrollably.

Join Bon Julie and throw in a couple of high kicks…just be careful not to knock over any lamps.

Finding My Flow in the Depths of Soul Sucking Self Promotion

Here I was again. In a book store, standing beside the table that I had fussed over – making sure that everything was in just the right place. I stood up tall, facing the less than spectacular crowd, and tried to ignore the feeling of doubt washing through me. Thoughts speared my brain. This is stupid. No one wants my book. What am I doing here?

We’ve all been there. Maybe you have done a book signing, maybe you haven’t. I am sure, however, that you have all had similar thoughts and feelings in some situation.

A book signing is honestly one of the hardest things that I’ve ever done. It is soul sucking. There you are, like some kind of jack-ass, telling people as they walk by that they need to buy your book. Yes, I am a local, self-published author that decided to write a book because I had this deep, burning desire within me to tell at story, and you now, some random stranger who was just going about your day, you need my book. It will change your life.

Creepy Look into the Book

It’s time for me to deliver on my promises.

I promised you a journey back to the time of 80s heavy rock, big hair and tight pants.

I promised you a murder case driven by re-enactments of a dark fantasy and ritual.

I promised to sweep you away to another time and another world.

It’s almost time to deliver the full package, the 80s Heavy Metal Infused Serial Killer Thriller, in it’s entirety.

To satisfy your desire, for the time being, here is a chilling snippet from the first murder scene. The scene in which Detective Mahoney is yanked from his morning sunny side ups  onto a dark path. A path that would take him spiralling down to the vortex of underground heavy metal, death and doom.

Back to the 80s

Remember a time when you had to walk across the street and knock on the door to talk to your friend?

Remember a time when you tied up the only phone line in your house all night, every night, until your parents got you a separate line?

Remember a time when you would pick up the telephone only to hear the crackling noise of the dial up Internet followed by your dad demanding to know who ruined his connection?

Remember a time when you laid in bed at night listening to the top ten at ten on AM radio?

Remember a time when finding the start of your favorite song required a series of skillful button pushes …. rewind, stop, play, stop, fast forward, stop, play, stop, rewind, stop, play, stop, rewind, stop, play…aaaaaah.
